yew-and boxwood grove in Sochi is as old as the mountains. It is a
unique and lucky remnant of wild prehistoric vegetation that -was
screened by mountains from extensive glaciation in the Ice Age.
The grove is taken care of and is a part of the Caucasian State
Biospheric Preserve. Many extinct plants on its grounds have been
entered in the Red book of endangered species. One has to be very
careful not to step off the track, not to damage endemic saplings.
